Words

I love words. I love when I read something I've felt, but couldn't put into words myself. That realization of yes! that's how I would have said it! But I also know I need to be careful and test all things. Martin Luther once wrote:

"The writings of all the holy fathers should be read only for a time, in order that through them we may be led to the Holy Scriptures. As it is, however, we read them only to be absorbed in them and never come to the Scriptures. We are like men who study the signposts and never travel the road. The dear fathers wished by their writing, to lead us to the Scriptures, but we so use them as to be led away from the Scriptures, though the Scriptures alone are our vineyard in which we ought to work and toil."

I love this quote because of its truth, many times we get distracted by man's words when their intentions were to bring us to God's Word. Sadly this is rapid today. Mankind begins to love each others words more than God's and that's how the detracting of the Word of God begins.

"But test everything; hold fast what is good." 1 Th. 5:21
